Dear Rick,

Thanks for contacting me. I apologize for not being available over the phone. I actually have already been to college - University of Massachusetts at Amherst up here in MA. And now I work at a fine company doing internet marketing and am quite happy doing that. I'm not looking to switch careers, though it appears that another 'Casey Williams' is.

Due to my love of the interwebs, I was one of the early adopters of gmail, and as such, have the coveted 'caseywilliams at gmail' email address. It seems that the name 'Casey Williams' is just common enough that there's more than one of us, but not as common as a 'Mike Smith' or 'Bob Williams' (my dad) so we're generally pretty careless when it comes to correctly writing our email addresses. Well, I write mine correctly, but I'm speaking on behalf of the other Casey Williamses.

It's complicated by the fact that Casey can be male or female. For reference, I am female.

Good luck trying to get in touch with my doppelganger. I fully support any interest in higher education, especially in the health field!

Best,

Casey A Williams
Boston, MA

PS. When you address letters, you should use a colon or comma, not a semi-colon. Just a helpful FYI.

Weekend Skirt Adventures

I had a lovely weekend, the highlight of which was dinner at PICCO (Pizza Ice Cream COmpany) in the South End. Their pizza is delightful, their ice cream very creamy, the bartenders saucy, the patio well worth the wait. And of course the company was great - Mel and J.

The trouble only started at the end of the meal - and after two glasses of delicious Malbec. I visited the ladies' room, and as one does, when I was done, I used my foot to kick flush the toilet.

Here is an equation for you that describes the situation:
2 Glasses Malbec + Pencil Skirt - 1 Good Ankle = Off Balance Flush Kick
Off Balance Flush Kick = Ripped Skirt

The slit in my GAP skirt became somewhat larger. I returned to the table and we all laughed about it.

Fast forward 10 minutes. Mel and J have offered to give me a ride to the T station. After all, I found them their parking spot right outside the restaurant and protected it from other drivers by pretending to talk on my cell phone.

Here is an equation for you to describe this situation:
Ripped Skirt + 2 Glasses Malbec + Getting into Car = VERY RIPPED SKIRT

I could not get up without flashing people. Good thing I was wearing underwear (yes clean underwear).

Thank goodness Mel and J gave me a ride home. Who know what would have happened to a semi-disrobed lady on the B line?

I took the photo at right as soon as I got in the door. It is low-res for a reason.

Bound to Happen

It was bound to happen.

I write some smart-ass blog post about a random email that I get as a Casey Williams.

Only this time I actually knew Young Paik. Okay "knew" is putting it strongly - turns out he is on the new hockey team I joined but then immediately sprained my ankle and couldn't play for 6 weeks and he missed the first game so I never met him but I was on the email list so his nice wife invited me to the party they had to watch his Wheel of Fortune debut. Where he won $61k.

This was all explained at our hockey game on Monday. Where Young was very nice and sporty and forgiving. And the photo in the Wheel of Fortune blog post is not him. It's this other guy named Young Paik who went to Tufts and lives in the Boston area. So I'm not the only one with online identity issues.

See you next week, Young. :-)

True Friendship

True friendship is when you call someone at 10:30 PM desperately seeking shin guards because you have mysteriously lost one of your own.

And then they look through their stuff until they find some.

And you drive to their house and pick them up, and go play floor hockey. And get punched in the jaw. Too bad they didn't have jaw guards to lend out.

Thanks, D & G!

Young Paik on Wheel of Fortune

Does anyone know Young Paik (at right).

Yeah I certainly don't.

Apparently either I forgot that I know him, he knows me and I don't know him, or he thinks I'm a different Casey Williams. Whoa that's a new one.

But if you DO know him, you should watch Wheel of Fortune tonight. He's on it. I know, because I've been invited to his home to watch Wheel of Fortune with his friends and wife tonight. In fact I've gotten like 17 Evite emails about it.

Young, I'm not going to be there tonight. But good luck.

Sports Confession

I have a confession, Blog.

I'm writing elsewhere now.

But not forever.

In fact, only sometimes.

And I don't think you'll be jealous, since it's about sports.

Sports may be a stretch.

See you soon! I promise!

My Weekend - Thrifting! and Cooking!

This weekend was dedicated to quality Mother-Daughter time. And quality father-brother-mother-daughter-eating-peach-pie time. And laid back boyfriend-cousin-girlfriend time. Lots of times were had.

To start, I took the day off of work on Friday and my mom and I went to Brimfield. Google it. Personally, I think - actually me AND my mom think - that it's a bit overpriced. I also personally think there is just too much to look at. Too many old carpets, 'antique' chairs, antique chairs, crazy eyed old dolls, mirrors, art, beads, crap, etc. Though I'm sure if you're someone who knows more about antiques, you can find good deals.

More my speed was the annual Littleton Country Fair (thrown by my parents' Unitarian church), including my beloved Trash 'n' Treasure, the following day (Saturday). Man did I find some deals, including a few that are going to be rehabbed and featured as a Before and After. It was also the perfect place to pick up camping gear! By gear, I mean an old frying pan, a spatula from 1975, and a mini gas grill complete with the little green propane thingies.

By far the best investment I made was in two used Moosewood cookbooks. So far we've made 4 recipes from the 'New Classics' book, and they have been FANTASTIC. How many times have you made 4 recipes from the same cookbook that have all been good? And healthy!

Below, I bring you Peach Pie In The Making, though it's not a recipe from Moosewood, it was SO DELICIOUS:

Ok so we skipped photographing the peach peeling and slicing and crust making, but here you can see me meticulously placing the crumble on top of the pie.

Susan aka Mom flipping through Betty to look something up. You can also see the 'second' peaches that we got at Gove Farm in Lancaster. Nothing beats a fresh peach!

Applying the tinfoil to the crust to prevent burning. There may or may not have been swearing involved.

The happy chef puts the pie in the oven. The tinfoil may or may not have fallen off the crust. Additional swearing definitely occurred.

As a happy side note, if you ever want to attract company, cook with peaches. The next evening I made a peach cobbler and low and behold, another guest came over!

Here's to more good eating.

Camping at Tolland State Forest

In list form, here is some advice in case you decide to undertake a camping adventure at Tolland State Forest:

1. Advance reservations are not always necessary. Sometimes you get lucky and make a camping reservation the Wednesday before Labor day, but are still able to get a sweet lakeside campsite at one of the top 100 campsites in the U.S. of A.

2. Even though you may in fact be very experienced at setting up your tent, do not stay at family reunions late enough that you arrive at your campsite in the dark. Bad things will happen. [Let your imagination run wild for a few minutes, then move on.]

3. Do not pull into campsite in the dark, and then back up. Though it may look like a nice friendly driveway, in reality it is not. It is a sloped driveway with rocks. Many rocks that can catch the bottom of your low-riding Mazda3 Hatchback.

Oops. What a nice morning surprise!

4. Always bring a 'multi-tool' (or Leatherman) in your camping supplies. I would also advise a ratchet set, as we used it to unscrew the hanging piece of plastic after driving 30 scraping minutes and buying it at ACE hardware. The multi-tool was useful in sawing off the plastic piece when a rusted bolt just wouldn't let go. And we used it to cut up cucumber for our salads.

5. Seek out a grocery store before getting to the campground. Though our convenience store hot dogs, chips, and s'mores were good, dinner would have been better if we had driven 0.5 miles out of the way in Westfield to a real grocery store on our way to the campground.

6. Make sure you look up at the sky often, both during the day and the night. Who knew the sky was so blue/so starry?
The daytime sky. Night time sky was not photographed, so you'll have to take my word for it.

7. Make sure you visit Tolland State Forest. It's amazingly beautiful, right on a lake, and they have flush toilets and a free shower!

*Bonus Tip! We highly advise driving the back roads to Amherst on the way back to Boston for a little Antonio's action. Yum!

How was your Labor day?
